Education in LA Trip to Machine Project
Education in LA had another outstanding outing, this time to visit our friends at Machine Project. This wildly creative group may confound you and make you think you need to clean your glasses (am I really seeing this?) but they never fail to amuse and delight anyone with a sense of humor and whimsy. For our visit, two groups of ten PAA members experienced Machine Project/Patrick Michael Ballard’s latest creation “RETURN TO FOREVER HOUSE,” an immersive environment and performance space. After passing through a black fur-lined waiting room, we entered an installation that is not quite living room, and not quite children’s TV show set. While attempting to solve a way out of the off-kilter fantasy space, we interacted with an extensive rotating cast and motley crew of scene teens, vampiric furniture, and a simple minded, suspicious, but potentially helpful neighbor. Working together as intrepid explorers, we succeeded in finding hidden clues in the locked room enabling Forever House to be returned to its former glory. Hurray! A lucky few stayed on for lunch at Mohawk Bend with the Machine Project team. It was silly and wacky, and a good time was had by all.
