March Regular Meeting – Hauser & Wirth

March took the PAA to the Hauser & Wirth gallery to see the darkly exuberant art of Jason Rhoades. Following our meeting, curator Stacen Berg, Senior Director at Hauser & Wirth, gave us an overview of the exhibition comprised of six major works spanning Rhoades career. The exhibition was conceived to share and celebrate his vision of the world as an infinite, corpulent, and lustful universe of expressive opportunity. From religion, commerce, sex, and racial and gender stereotypes, to the role of the artist himself, no subject was off-limits and taboo was embraced. The works are “culminating accretions of readymades, neon signs, and libidinous imagery [that] attract, then repulse, then mystify the viewer, igniting questions that multiply” with prolonged viewing. They are not to be missed! But, if you did, the Jason Rhoades Installations, 1994 – 2006 will be on view through May 21.
