December 2017 General Meeting

December General Meeting at the Institute of Contemporary Art – LA
The newly opened ICA-LA was the downtown location for our December General Meeting held on December 7th.  Members and guests were delighted to hear Executive Director, Elsa Longhouser discuss the work of self-taught artist, Martin Ramirez.  His exhibition includes drawings and collages that he produced while he was institutionalized from 1931-1963.  Elsa also spoke of Abigail DeVille’s site-specific installation which touches on issues such as displacement, migration, marginalization and cultural invisibility.
During the General Meeting, Shelley Sackett announced a January trip Inside LA to the Skirball and a February surprise visit yet to be revealed! Education Outside LA Chairmen, Carol Econn and Peggy Dark currently have a sold out trip to Chicago.  Alfrida King and Judy Plunkett, Patron Chairs for the Benefit, announced January 22 – 24 will be our patron letter signing. Francine Cooper and Elizabeth Berry are ready for our annual Holiday Party.  Finally, it was announced that Clare Tayback and Mia Dean have agreed to be the Co-Chairs for the Treasure Sale in 2019.  Barbara Davis has agreed to assist.  Looks like Judy Whiting is already well on her way to an all new Board next year.
