March Regular Meeting – Hauser and Wirth

A bit of spring fever (or possibly the lure of a great show followed by a delicious lunch) resulted in a near
record number of Art Alliance members making the trek to the DTLA Arts District for the March regular
meeting. The level of excitement for the organization has hit a fever pitch: all programs are in full
swing! Highlights of the meeting were:  The Treasure Sale is just around the bend and Mia Dean reminded members (with an assist
from Mary Alexander and Marsha Bohr) that everyone is required to purchase one ticket to
the event and that the reply deadline is March 28. The move in date to the site (The Shops on
Lake) will commence on 3/26 and will continue until the opening night (4/11). Hours for
working on set-up are 10-2 every day except Sundays. Kirsten Molz made a pitch for the Super
Silent Auction—more vacation homes, event tickets and wine are needed! And Bette Cooper
is handling volunteer shifts for the sale: pleas were made for everyone taking at least one shift
during the weekend.  A dues increase was proposed by the Finance Committee with approval from the Board. The
increase is necessary because of increased costs in rent, insurance, and other administrative
items. The last increase was in 2011, and the hope is that dues will cover all costs of
operations for the organization so that the fundraising dollars can go in support of grants and
awards. The membership approved the increase, and new dues will be $250 for Active, $375
for Decorative, $125 for Non-Resident beginning the 2019-2020 fiscal year.  The 2019 Grants checks will be presented at the upcoming reception on March 19 at Judy
Penner’s home.
Next the group heard from Stacen Berg, Senior Director at Hauser & Wirth Gallery, Los Angeles. She
gave an overview of the two shows that are on view: Piero Manzoni: Materials of His Time and Annie
Liebovitz: The Early Years, 1970 – 1983: Archive Project No. 1. Members were enthralled with both
shows as the attached photos will attest. A delicious lunch followed at Manuela, the onsite restaurant
in the gallery courtyard. Feeling nourished, enriched and energized, the PAA members are now able to take on the busy month ahead!
