Education Outside LA
Our trip to London with 17 intrepid PAA members was headquartered at The Durrant, a charming hotel in the heart of Marylebone. We ventured by bus, tube, black taxi, but mostly by Uber, as we made our way throughout London. Our visits included the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery, the Tate Modern, and the Tate Britain to see the Ed Atkins Exhibition, as well as the Serpentine to view the Arpita Singh Exhibition.
However, the heart of our trip focused on some incredible artist studios, with a private collection and dinner at the stunning home of Maryam Eisler. The artist studios were as varied as the artists themselves. The studios included Chris Levine, best known for his photography of Queen Elizabeth II with her eyes closed and his light installations; Conrad
Shawcross and Carolina Mazzolari; Phillip and Charlotte Colbert; Rob and Nick Carter; Nancy Cadogan; and the multi-talented Mary McCartney.
We didn’t miss a meal, starting with a sumptuous breakfast every morning at The Durrant. We included lunches and dinners at The Ivy Club with artist Noj Barker, Darleeling Express, The Royal Oaks Pub, Giovani’s, and The Artist
Residence at The Cambridge House.
While we were there, we managed to squeeze in a visit to the Chelsea Flower Show before our trip ended. All in all, it was a fabulous trip, thanks to our fantastic participants!
Cheers,
