Descanso Gardens is a botanical garden in La Cañada Flintridge, California, and recently added a contemporary art gallery. The Sturt Haaga Gallery was conceived as an important addition to Descanso’s education mission. Programming in the gallery derives from and seeks to illuminate the intersection between contemporary arts and the sciences represented by the garden — botany, horticulture, biology, ecology, conservation, and the study of gardens as cultural artifacts.

The funds will be used for an artwork for the exhibition Signs of Life with a theme which explores the nature of water as the source of life. The exhibition will occur in the fall of 2014.
