Fulcrum Arts, based in Pasadena, advances collaboration at the intersection of art and science to impact positive social change on a civic scale through exhibitions, institutional partnerships, interdisciplinary symposia, festivals, residencies, and outreach education.

The grant will support Sam Shoemaker: Mushroom Boat, a ceramic sculpture and video installation where emerging artist and mycologist, Sam Shoemaker, crosses the Catalina Channel in a boat that he has literally grown in his studio and laboratory. Sam Shoemaker’s Mushroom Boat will be in Fulcrum’s new gallery space for experimental works, along with his sculptures.  Exhibition opens September 15, 2025; Catalina Channel crossing on September 19, 2025
