Joan is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit art space for exhibitions, performances, screenings, and discursive events. Founded in 2015 by three female curators, and inspired by the history of performance spaces, JOAN supports experimental practices which exist outside of commercial contexts and aims to enrich the communities it serves with free, public programming that is intellectually stimulating and that has creative, cultural and educational value.

JOAN will receive funding in support of Roksana Pirouzmand: Two Ends of a Thread. This site-specific solo exhibition consists of newly commissioned artwork by Iranian-American artist Roksana Pirouzmand, including sculptures, installations, and wall pieces for her most ambitious, institutional presentation to date. This will include sculptural pieces based on her family portraits alongside new ceramic techniques and mediums. Her recent works deal with diasporic memory and forms of care and violence.
