LAXART (The Brick)

Olga Vanegas

The Brick is a nonprofit visual art space that promotes developments in contemporary culture through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. LAXART believes that contemporary art is a means of understanding key issues of our time with all their inherent contradictions. Contemporary art assumes many forms. Rather than provide answers, it raises questions. Through a range of offerings, The Brick contextualizes contemporary art both socially and historically. Their programs are free and designed to be accessible to the general public.

LAXART AKA “The Brick” will receive funding in support of Nancy Buchanan: A Retrospective.  Organized by Deputy Director and Curator Catherine Taft, with artist Laura Owens, this project honors a creative pioneer who has been a vital part of the Los Angeles art community for five decades. The exhibition will include key examples of Buchanan’s performance work from the 70’s when she was collaborating with leading artists Chris Burden, Paul McCarthy, and Barbara T. Smith, among others, and will include installations recreated by Taft and Owens which have never been seen. August 19, 2025 – February 14, 2026
