Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA)
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) is a non-collecting museum considered an epicenter of artistic experimentation and incubator of new ideas. Founded in 1984, the current ICA LA builds upon a distinguished history of exhibitions, education, and public programs.
ICALA will receive a grant to support Will Rawls:[siccer], an interdisciplinary project by artist and choreographer Will Rawls that uses live performance, moving image, and sound to explore the ongoing exploitation and erasure of Black identity. The show will inhabit the 5,000 square foot main gallery in its entirety, without any walls, resulting in an immersive and cohesive experience. The project’s title is inspired by the Latin adverb “[sic],” used to indicate incorrect spelling within a quotation, and often employed when Black vernacular speech is cited within a standard English text.
